A special jazz-filled night with the Ashley Wey Trio

Victoria – Ashley Wey is back with a special celebration show with long time friends, bassist Sean Drabitt and drummer extraordinaire Kelby MacNayr at Hermann’s Jazz Club on Wednesday, February 15.

Ashley is leaving Victoria for a spring tour with four-time Grammy Award winner, Manny Kellough, from March to June 2012. The Manny Kellough All-Stars released a DVD in 2011 in the U.S. and are looking forward to playing straight- ahead jazz on the newest Celebrity Cruiseliner, the Sillioutte.

The show at Hermann’s will be a birthday celebration for Drabitt. “I’m honoured and delighted to celebrate a friend’s birthday at Hermann’s Jazz Club,” says Wey. “February 15th is a night dedicated to the celebration of life, friends, community, love and music.”

The evening is guaranteed to be full of beautiful, funky, sweet music, infused with heart and soul. Ashley will perform some of her newest original material along with songs from her full-length debut, Star Seeds, released in November 2011.

SkyLAB is a place where LIVE FREESTYLE experiments in BEATS, BASS and VOICE take place….Skylab consists of members of Greenlaw ( Skyla J and Oz ) plus the fabulous Aaron Scoones and Ashley Wey.

Skyla J programs and controls the beats which mostly consist of DUB/ HOUSE/ SOUL TRIP HOP / and DUB STEP while she sings and plays the flute
Oz MC’s and switches between Bass, keys and freaky funky sounds from his two KORG keyboards.
Scoones switches between Bass, Keys and Back up vocals
Ian Avary switches between Cornet and Keys

” After nearly a decade of touring, including recent European dates with four-time Grammy winner Manny Kellough, Victoria born jazz pianist Ashley Wey returns home to release her full-length debut, Star Seeds, at Hermann’s Jazz Club Nov. 26th at 8:30pm. The former North Saanich resident will perform with drummer Kelby MacNayr and bassist Sean Drabitt. They are long-time friends and musical compatriots who also acted as her studio band while recording the CD this past spring. Acting as producer, composer and performer on her debut recording, Wey “wanted to explore love and romance from a few different viewpoints.” She added interpretations of standards including Sinatra’s Nice and Easy and the Doris Day Classic Secret Love, as well as four of her original jazz compositions. Special guests on Star Seeds include vocalist Azure McCall, violinist Taylor Rankin and Argentinian guitarist Pablo de Luca.
